Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus and another half dozen manufacturers make great digital compact cameras, especially at the $300 plus price point. Go to to camera store, see what features are important to you. How easy is it to navigate through the menus that you need? Do you want/need video? Do you want/need something small enough to fit in a pocket? Does it fit comfortably in your hands? Does it take a readily available memory card? Olympus and Fuji require the xD card that no one else uses. Sony uses the memory sticks, not the more commonly used SD cards. What about zoom lens? Do you need one that zooms to telephoto proportions? Forget any hype about digital zoom- it’s worthless, just an advertising gimmick.
